Port Moresby to Host 2015 FORU Oceania Cup

by Lorraine Genia – EM TV Sport, Port Moresby

Next month Port Moresby will play host to the 2015 FORU Oceania Cup involving PNG, Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands and Solomon Islands.

Following the upset from the national sevens team at the 2015 Pacific Games, this tournament provides an opportunity for the PNG Pukpuks 15s team to elevate the status of PNG rugby in the region.

Port Moresby hosted the most recent Cup in 2013, with Cook Islands securing a victory against PNG in the finals.

This time around, the Pukpuks are looking to take the title off the Cooks with a mix of overseas and PNG based players.

Richard Aitsi, Bradley Kelegai, Rabbie Namaliu, Zion Reto and Nigel Genia are players from the Queensland PNG Rugby Union team included in the squad.

There will be a number of trials held in the next two weeks in Port Moresby and Lae before a team is finalised to head in to camp.
