Soso Funds JK McCarthy Museum

More emphasis must be given to preserve Papua New Guinearsquo;s rich culture and traditions.

 

This wasthe message from Eastern Highlands Governor Julie Soso who recently presented a K20, 000 funding assistance to JK McCarthy Museum.

It was also a personal affair, as JK McCathy Museum officially launched a Gallery that was named afterthe fther of Governor Julie Soso.

 

The Soso Subi Gallery holds various exquisite art exhibitions.

 

Daughter ofthe Pioneer and Eastern Highlands Governor, Julie Soso was proud that her fther wasthe first member ofthe Coffee Beard and contributed tothe growing coffee industry in Papua New Guinea

 

“My fther has leftthe legacy and I want make sure thatthe legacy live on,” said Soso.
 

National Museum & Art Gallery Beard Member Dr Michael Mel saidthe Soso Subi gallery was named after a pioneer who through his wisdom allowedthe early explorers to settle in Goroka, and it was only fitting to namethe institution after him.

 

Acting Assistant Director of JK McCarthy Museum Martha Tokuyawa reiterated similar sentiments, statingthe Gallery is a tribute to a local leader and an achievement bythe JK McCarthy Museum.

 

The Eastern Highlands Provincial Government has now allocated K100, 000 for the Museum in next year’s budget.

 

Also recently,the McCarthy Museum opened anther arts painting exhibition. The paintings on display were done by Artist Apa Tengere who captured life back in Hawinda Valley inthe Hela Province.

 

Among his paintings included BeCK FROM THE GARDEN. This painting depictsthe Hela lifestyle withthe multi – billion kina LNG Project. 

 

Mr Tengere’s style of art has received 11 awards and is one ofthe must – see exhibits atthe JK McCarthy Museum.
