PM’s Japan visit beneficial forPNG

Prime Minister Peter saidthe recent visit to Japan was intense, however beneficial for Papua New Guinea

Trade and investment opportunities for Japan were among many vital topics discussed.

Most importantowasthe stability ofthPNG government that will mean a continuity of various Japanese programs in PNG and introduction of potential investors.

Prime Minister O’Neill said in a media conference overthe weekend that Japan in PNG rsquo;s second largest trading and development partner;the first being Australia.

Various energy and gas companies have shown interest inthe LNG project.

The three-day visit also sawthe signing ofthe exchange of notes onthe agreement for the Ramu Power Transmission Systems Rehabilitation/Reinforcement Project.

The project is worth two hundred and fifteen million kina, under Japan’s Official Development Agreement program.

PNG has already ratifliedthPNG/JapanInvestment Promotion and Protection Agreement for the safety and security of Japanese investment in PNG

Partnership talks also involved an increase inthe cooperation of both countries military forces, mainly in Disaster and Relief response. This partnership may extend to ther pending transport infrastructure projects inthe country.

Meantime, Japan has offered eighty spaces for students’to study at various tertiary institutionsthere.
