Health facilities alongthe corridors ofthPNG LNG Project now have access to vital medical equipment thanks to a joint initiative by developers Esso Highlands and domestic and international partners.
Over a hundred pieces of medical equipment will be distributed to 12 health facilities in four different provinces.
The Mt Hagen Provincial Hospital wasthe first facility to receive a shipment recently.
The much needed medical equipment was presented tothe hospital to improver its services tothe people of Western Highlands.
Program partnersPNG Tribal Foundation, MediSend, and Esso Highlands were present to hand overthe gifts.
PNG Tribal Foundation is one NGO that focuses on health and education services and was keen on joiningthe program.
The Western Highlands Provincial Government has been tasked bythe Government to establishthe Mt Hagen Provincial Hospital as a regional referral hospital.
Director of Curative Health Services, Dr John Kiap, said achieving that will take time, but withthe support of developers and its partners, that’s a positive sign.
Esso Highlands will be presenting 130 items of medical equipment to 12 health centres alongthe LNG Corridor, covering four provinces including Southern Highlands, Gulf, and Central Province.
They have also begun sending technicians tothe United States to be trained in biomedical repair, to ensure this equipment is well maintained.
