Equal opportunities for maritime and inland fisheries

Provincial heads of Fisheries have been presented with one hundred thousand each by National Fisheries Authority, for various fisheries projects intheir respective provinces.

Minister for Fisheries and Marine Resources Mao Zeming paid outthe monies in Port Moresby.

The presentation ofthe cheques topped off a three-day consultative meeting coordinated by NFA.

Adaptingthe ‘2013 asthe year of implementation’ NFA is partnering with provinces through financial and institutional strenthening of coastal and in land fisheries management and development projects in PNG

Managing Director Sylvester Pokajam urgedthe provincial fisheries heads to ensurethe money is spent on projects that will make an impact on local communities.

Highlands’ provinces did not miss out onthe funding. Each was given five hundred thousand each as well to fund fish projects intheir provinces.

Mr Pokajam said NFA saw equal opportunities for both maritime and inland fisheries as well.
