Church aids the injured

A local Church in Port Moresby has decided to provide medical assistance tothe 74 men who were attacked by police over a month ago.

Some ofthe men hadtheir achilles’ tendons slashed but had not received any medical treatment.

The Tabernacle of Christ Church at 6-Mile opened its doors on Tuesday for the victims andtheir families.

Pastor Joseph Walters saidthey all resided withinthe same area and upon hearingtheir story, he wanted to assist in a small way.

“It’s an ongoing community outreach that’s been organised bythe church and we are happy to help in whatever we can in this very important humanitarian need,” said Pastor Walters.

Coincidentally a visiting team from Australia offered to provide medical attention to victims who have not been to any hospital sincethe attack.

A mther fromthe Kabwum Community Be wa Albert said some ofthe men cannot go to work for the livelihood oftheir families.

Pastor Walter saidthey will continue to assistthe people through any means necessary.

The attack onthe 74 men by police is now beforethe courts.
