OTML PM addresses Concentrates Stockpile

Parliament was told last Friday that several factors have affectedthe operational performance of OK Tedi Mine.

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill stated this when responding to questions relating tothe Ok Tedi Mine and alleged stockpiling of concentrates atthe mine.

 

He brushed aside claims about copper concentrates sitting atthe Kiunga Warf sayingthe stockpiling of concentrates recently are a normal part ofthe mines operations.

 

The issue of was raised bythe member for Chuave and Vice Minister for Mining, Wera Mori, during question time last Wednesday.

 

Mr.Mori claimed thatthe stockpile began atthe timethe government took overthe mine.

 

The Prime minister could not give an answerthen, however on friday, presented to parliament a list of facts explainingthe stockpile as a normal part ofthe mine’s cycle.

 

He admitted that chemical composition of copper concentrates have elevated fluorine levels due to restrictions from ore blending.

 

Mr. O’Neill said several events have affectedthe operational performance.

 

There are also ther issues but OTML is addressing it effectively.
