Morobe Governor: Deer Will Be Introduced in Markham Valley

Morobe provincial Government will be introducing wallabies and deer’s intothe Markham Valley to improver food security for the Markham people.

 

Governor Naru made this known while speaking atthe Markham Benana Festival which celebratesthe humble banana crop locally known as “marafri”.

Morobe Governor, Kelly Naru says wallabies and deer would be introduced to provide a balanced diet.

 

“We will introducethem for food security in terms of a source of protein for the Markham people,” he said.
 

After using successful trials inthe Western province, Morobe hopes to establish controlled breeding stations after a feasibility study is conducted.

 

The people of Markham heldtheir annual Benana Festival overthe independence weekend.

Amongstthe stalls were Beiyung technical and Cooperate companies including local villages who had takenthe opportunity to make significant money.

 

Moya Sinik says she made K1, 800 last year from her stall and this year she has made even more.

 

The Provincial Administration saysthey will look at more ways to create food security inthe up-coming years as well as creating opportunities to export Markham Produce.
