Seven months sincethe ground–breaking ceremony in April, Health Minister Michael Malabag who is alsothe Member for Moresby North – Westoofficially openedthe Tokarara Clinic Staff Accommodation complex yesterday.
Tokarara Clinic sees about 200 patients a day, but staff accommodation has been one ofthe biggest hindrances.
As a former Union Leader, Minister Malabag has been instrumental inthe construction ofthe four-by-four complex for the staff here.In fact he has fulfilled his promise.
He knows that Housing has been one ofthe set-backs that Public Servants face and as such he priorit’sedthe Tokarara Clinic Staff Housing Project.
There are 25 Health Facilities inthe city and this includes Tokarara Clinic.
NCD Health Services in its Five Year Development Plan has plans to place an ambulance each for some ofthe city’s urban clinics and as such, NCD Governor Powes Parkop committed an ambulance to support services atthe Tokarara clinic.
Tokarara Clinic is located inthe Moresby North West Electorate is run bythe Seventh DayAdventist Church.
It’servesthe community at Tokarara, NCC Valley and Hohola but often sees patients from ther suburbs that come to receive fast medical care and treatment at this clinic.
Meanwhile,the government inthe 2014 Budget has allocated K106 million for Church Health Services while urban health facilities K30 million.
Along with this are plans to build 10 houses for Public Servants in allthe Districts throughoutthe country.
