After 38 years,the people of North Fly district inthe Western Province, have, for the first time, showcasedtheir taboo dance tothe general public.
The people saidthey kept it taboo in fear of losing it tothe introduction of Christianity and modernization.
Three cultural show have been hosted this year; one in Rumginae, Ningerum and Kiunga.
The provincial government allocated over one-hundred thousand kina to hostthese shows.
Mr. Kondra was guest of honour atthese shows. On Friday he launched cultural show at Rumginae followed by Ningerumthen Kiunga.
The shows comprised ofthe Yongum, Awin, Faiwol, Ningerum and Pari tribes amongst ther smaller tribes.
An initiation dance performed by a group of men from Ningerum is amongthe many that were showcased for the first time.
The District Administrator, Dume Woo, proposed thatthe customs and traditions be incorporated intothe Western Province education system and keep it alive,for generations to come.
The minister announced that a festival will be launched in June 2014 inthe districtocalledthe Shell Kambang Festival.
He told his people to treasuretheir culture and educatethemselves to protectoconserve and promotethem, and earn a living fromthem as well.
Thirty dancers fromthe district will be taking part inthe 2014 Melanesian Arts Festival.
