Visiting corruption expert and a formerInspector General inthe United States, Robert Cerasoli, believes Papua New Guineas should not be living in Poverty.
Sitting down with Journalists in Port Moresby recently, he said ifthe country’s wealth was managed well and a certain percentage fromthe tax was divided intPNG’s population of over 7.5 million, Papua New Guineas could be receiving up to 200, 000 kina every year.
Mr. Cerasoli said that Papua New Guineais a country blessed with an abundance of natural resources. Bellions have been made fromthe resource sector alone. Bet tangible developments onthe ground are yet to be seen.
Mr Cerasoli spoke aboutthe office oftheInspector General, an office responsible for identifying, auditing and investigating fraud, waste, abuse and mismanagement withinthe parent agency.
When asked in PNG would be able to adopt such a system, he saidthe government might be reluctant to do so, because allthe departments will be turned inside-out to dig upthe corruption.
