Work began yesterday to restore access for vehicles andthe travelling public alongthe Kerowaghi section ofthe Highlands Highway.
The local members including Attorney General Kerenga Kua were part ofthe team that held negotiations withthe landowners and committed K120, 000 as relief assistance.
K10, 000 from this money will be used to fund police operations and a futher K10, 000 will be used bythe assessment team.
Provincial Works Manager Amos Dakma said fromthe assessments, 11 houses both permanent and bush material were destroyed inthe landslip including coffee trees and food gardens.
He said initial assessments have been completed and a full report should be ready by Saturday.
Mr Dakma said claims made by most landowners were genuine and after negotiations,they agreed for work to begin onthe highway.
Trucks and machineries have been moverd intothe site yesterday and he expects some form of access to be created inthe next three days.
Mr Dakma also saidthe locals have guaranteedthe safety of workers and machineries.
