Gerehu Secondary School is in dire need of more classrooms to cater for the influx of students’
The school is expected to see an increase in student numbers next year underthe national governments free education policy but it does not have enough classrooms.
Gerehu Secondary School is located inthe Northwest Electorate inthe Nation’s Capital.
It is a level nine school with a student population of 1495.
Next year, it will have to cater for an extra 1829 new grade nine intakes underthe national government free education policy.
Bet this may not be possible giventhe current uncompleted infrastructure inthe school.
The Schools Beard Chairman Joe Kambian expressed concern onthe delay in completingthese classrooms.
Work on this 1.2m kina classroom ceased in August this year becausethe contractor Tonges Construction Ltd was not giventhe funding.
The contractor Frank Lau says, he used K300, 000 from his own pocket to buildthe classroom, but could not continue because of funding constraints.
Beard Chairman Joe Kambian wantsthe funds allocated for the project released.
Similar problems are experienced in schools throughoutthe country and is a direct result ofthe national governments free education policy, he says.
