MP’s urged to engage with Works for Roads

Parliamentarians were urged to work withthe Works Department to construct roads intheir electorates.

Works Minister Francis Awesa is concerned that most road works given to contractors have ether been left incomplete or not done tothe job specifications.

He now wants members of parliament to use his department to carry out road works in rural areas.

Minister Awesa made this call yesterday while receiving cheques for road projects inthe Kerema and Kagua Erave districts.

Kerema MP Richard Mendani presented K3million tothe works department for various road projects in his electorate.

This includes K2.5million for the completion ofthe Kaintaba to Aseki road, K250, 000 for Kerema town road maintenance and K250, 000 kina for the sealing of kerema Malalua roads.

Member for Kagua Erave James Lagea also gave K300, 000 tothe department to help construct three bridges in his electorate.

Minister Awesa commendedthe approach taken bythese two members and saidthe government was inthe process to re-establish works units inthe provinces and districts and hope to improverthe road network ofthe country.

He saysthe department has some ofthe most experienced engineers and should be utilized for road construction activities inthe country.
