Tari Pori MP and Minister for Finance, James Marape issued fifteen Israeli firearms and three Toyota land cruisers to Police personnel to control escalating law and order problems inthe district.
Minister Marape’saidthe issuing ofthe police vehicles and firearms is to enhance police operations.
The people of Tari Pori lefttheir iconic traditional costumes intheir hamlets and gthered atthe capital of Hela Province to withnesstheir MP address law and order issues.
They were issued a stern warning on law and order overtheIndependence weekend.
Marape’stressed thatthe annual budget for Hela province is K300 million withthe LNG component; however, if people continue to take law & order intotheir hands, benefits of socio-economic developments will be minimal inthe province.
Minister Marape also outlined an incentive package for police personnel.
This include operational allowance, insurance cover for police operating in Tari, special force combat skills training and casualty compensation for police during operations.
Provincial Police Commander Teddy Tei commended Minister Marape’s initiative.
Highlightingthe presentations were two experts of Special Forces Combat Skills who showcased glimpse oftheir training methods and techniques.
