East Sepik Project Funds in Question

The East Sepik Provincial Administration has been called on to explainthe status ofthe funds earmarked for the Beram General Hospital andthe Moem Army Barracks.

 

Minister for Trade, Commerce &Industry and member for Yangoru Saussia Richard Maru’saidthe hospital and army barracks are in urgent need for maintenance and has asked why work has not begun yet.

 

“Beth institutions are completely rundown,the Moem Barracks and Beram Hospital,” said Richard Maru.

“The National Government had donethe right thing by givingthe province four million kina in total to undertake urgent maintenance work but up to now ‘no work has been done and no one knows wherethe money is’.

The public in East Sepik have been asking and asking and complaining and complaining.”
 

Meantime, he saidthe national government was also waiting for the East Sepik provincial government and its administration to bringthem a proposal including design and costing for a new referral hospital in Wewak.

 

They are also waiting for a proposal for the national government to fund a new Provincial Government Head Quarters.

 

“We are still waiting and I’m surethe people of East Sepik are still waiting so I call onthe East Sepik Provincial Government to submitthese two proposals that I’ve requested for since I was elected so I can take it up tothe Prime Minister andthe National Government to ensure both projects are included for funding inthe 2014 budget,” said Minister Maru.
 

Minister Maru called on newly sworn in Hospital Chairman Allan Berd to investigatethe status ofthe funds andthe progress of maintenance work atthe hospital.

 

Meantime, Minister Maru thanked Prime Minister Peter O’Neill for endorsing Mr. Maru’s written submission for the Wewak wharf to be upgraded to an international wharf, worth sixty million kina.

 

This is in preparation for major Oil Palm and livestock investments inthe East Sepik Province through new national trading relationships withIndonesia.

 

“I’m happy to tellthe people of East Sepik thatthe Prime Minister has endorsed thatthe National Government will park 60 million kina inthe 2014 budget for the redevelopment ofthe Wewak wharf to an international wharf,” Maru’said.
