Outstanding Women Recognised

Five outstanding women were recognised in different categories andtheir services to society were acknowledged duringthe Westpac Outstanding Womenrsquo;s Awards ceremony.  

 

Hundreds gthered last night atthe Gateway Hotel to withnessthe much anticipated 2013 Westpac Outstanding WomenAwards. Most of those in attendance were sponsors.

Guest speaker was Australian Kay Cottee,the first woman to circumnavigate aroundthe globe solo in 1988 as a 35 year old, on her yacht called “First Lady”.

 

Her main message was about having positive attitude inthe face of immense challenges.

 

The evening belonged tothe fourteen finalists, highly distinguished for their individual work inthe many sectors inthe country.

 

Anthonia Apurel was winner ofthe Private Sector Award, recognising her contributions as a manager at TrukaiIndustries. The prize was sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers.

 

The Steamships Public Sector Award was given to Pediatrician Dr. Mobuma Kiromat for her commitment tothe health sector.

 

The SP Brewery Entrepreneurs Award was given to Sarah Shelley, recognising her innovations in wine making.

 

The Young Achievers Award sponsored by IBeM, was awarded to Doris Cheryl Mondo Mulas for her achievement inthe HospitalityIndustry.

 

It was agriculturalistoMaria Linibi who gotthe Trukai Community Award as well asthe overall Westpac Outstanding Woman ofthe Year.

 

The winners were urged to ponder on how to usetheir awards to effect change inthe community and futher enhancetheir own capacities.

 

Westpac Pacific General Manager Greg Pawson saidthe motivation ofthe WOW Awards was to present more opportunities to women, and to publicly recognisestheir unsung achievements.
