Election Petition: Awesa Declared Winner

Works Minister and Member for Imbongu, Francis Awesa, says he will now implement many ofthe pending projects inthe Districtonow that he has won his court battle against Pila Niningi.

This case was unique as both men were declared winners for the same seat duringthe 2012 Elections but Mr. Awesa was later officially declared winner.

 

Following this, Mr Niningi filed an election petition, resulting in a yearlong battle that ended yesterday, not in his favour.

 

Minister Awesa arrived late yesterday from Mt Hagen afterthe court dismissed his case completely. He was met by some of his officers.

He wants to putthe case behind him and implement outstanding projects inthe Imbongu District.

 

The court battle has used millions of kina and as his next step, Mr. Awesa plans to recoup all his legal expenses.

 

He has also called onthe Electoral Commission to ensure to proper Election Processes are followed and legal declarations are made during any one election.
