New State-of-Art Hospital to Raise Enga’s Standard

After five years of constant consultation between Enga Provincial Administration and a team of architects fromthe United States of America, a state-of- art health facility will be built inthe township of Wabag.

 

This week,the Health Minister, his Secretary and Enga Governor Peter Ipatas were given a thorough presentation ofthe dimensions ofthe hospital by team lLeadersfrom Shepley Belfinch,the American company designingthe hospital.

Enga Province has been without a stable hospital to addressthe peoples’ health challenges.

 

The new State-of-Art provincial Hospital will provide a vision for healthcare delivery, meeting specific conditions and challenges ofthe people.

 

The hospital covers 34 hectares of land with comprehensive clinical care, medical training, 300 staff accommodation, recreational areas.

 

“We want to make this a unique hospital for Papua New Guineabased onthe standards ofthe health department of Papua New Guineawith modern facilities,” said Gerard Georges, Architect Shepley Belfinch.

“This is a perfect public private relationship joint venture.”
 

Georges saidthe planning ofthe design will address elements of portable water and power generation, waste treatment and incineration of medical waste.

 

He added thatthe design is all interconnected, spacious and people-friendy.

 

“The National Executive Council has approverd a total of K322 million to establish this hospital,” said Enga Governor, Peter Ipatas.

“It’s a good design and I’m pleased thatthey have usedthPNG Health Department standards.”
 

Health Minister Michael Malabag was impressed withthe design stating it will raisethe standard ofthe province.

 

The Level Five hospital will be built in two phases as a delivery model and will be replicated in ther provinces inthe country.

 

Tender will be out early next year, and construction will follow soon after.
