ThPNG Nurses’ Association needs over a million kina to host its 12th National Nurses’ Research Symposium in Novermber.
The Association has appealed tothe government and business houses for assistance.
The symposium in Mendi, Southern Highlands aims to identifythe trend of lifestyle diseases and ther national health issues atthe aid post and clinical level.
Between five hundred to one thousand nurses and ther community health workers nationwide are expected to attend this year’s symposium.
President Emily Kaptigau said nurses’ annual symposiums are usually sponsored bythe association and individual nurses.
Mrs. Kaptigau said this year’s symposium is different and very important.
“We want support of stakeholders to help us. Technically we can dothe job, all we want is funding for people who are need of health services,” says Kaptigau.
“We have a booming population and lifestyle diseases coming intothe country, and we nurses alone cannot addressthese ourselves.”
Withthetheme – Closingthe Gap from Evidence to Action; she saidthe symposium will expose and identifythe root causes of national health concerns atthe grassroots level.
The symposium also aims to foster private public partnership.
&ldquoIn such symposium like this, it’s really to improver patient’s health care and bring in better health services,” says Timothy Pirinduo – National General Secretary.
The association has a budget of over one million kina.
The fund will be used to hostthe symposium and transport equipment’s and nurses tothe host town.
The committee has raised over twenty thousand kina so far from barbeques and individual contributions.
