Rabaul Queen Appeal Government to penalize agencies

The fther ofthe Rabaul Queen engineer who dlied whenthe ship sank has appealed tothe government to penalizethe government agencies which are responsible for maritime safety.

Reverend Arua Oala said whilethe investigation has been commissioned,the government’should not forget aboutthe agencies entrusted with public safety andthe poor jobthey did.

Meanwhile an officer in charge of police investigations into Disaster has called on relatives and survivors to report tothe Kokopo police station to give evidence.

Head ofthe Niugini Islands  investigating team, Senior Sergeant Robert Wane, says whilethere has been widespread public demand for action,  not many people have come to police to provide information.

Wane says many ofthe victims have relocated tothe highlands or Lae and this is slowing down progress.

More than two hundred passengers dlied inthe ship disaster in February last year, with over one hundred and seventy people still remaining unaccounted for.

The investigation was initiated after continuous public pressure and intervention by Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill
