Free Health Care Policy Launching On Hold

The launching ofthe much anticipated Free Health Care Policy was called off on Thursday because Health Minister Michael Malabag was unavailable.

It is understoodthe Minister andthe Secretary had leftthe country on an official trip.

Acting Secretary Doctor Paison Dakulala assured those presentoincluding hospital chief executive officers, provincial health advisors and donor country representatives, thatthe launching will surely take place next month.

 

Amongthe staff and management fromthe national department of health present at HolidayInn Hotel in Port Moresby were a total of 8 Provincial Health Advisors, 10 Chief Executive Officers and UNICEF and ther donor country representatives.

 

It was a letdown for many ofthe provincial health workers who came to Port Moresby attheir own expense to find out thatthe launching was postponedthere andthen.

 

Dr. Dakulala read Health Secretary Pascoe Kase’s speech.

 

He talked aboutthe importance ofthe policy as it will easethe financial burden on Papua New Guineas.

 

“The commitment of this government to free primary health care and subsidized specialist health complimentsthe current national health plan.”
 

The free health care policy is one ofthe O’Neill-Dion government’s policies that won favour from Papua New Guineas inthe 2012 general election.

 

The policy focuses on providing free primary health care and subsidized specialist services.
