PAC Disappointed With Housing,Lands and Finance

The Public Accounts Committee has convened its inquiry intothe National Housing Corporation,Lands and Finance Department.

 

PAC Chairman and Begia MP John Hickey was disappointed that no progress has been made since last month’s inquiry.

About 11, 000 properties have been purchased, but to date, titles have not been given tothe property owners.

 

Present were representatives fromthe National Housing Corporation led by MD John Dege.

Finance was represented by Acting Secretary Sir Manasupe Zurenouc andLands Department Secretary Romily Kila Pat.

 

There were few exchanges of words as Chairman Hickey questioned Mr Dege why documents requested bythe Committee earlier were not delivered, but Mr Dege maintained he provided everything.

 

Chairman Hickey was concerned thatthere was an insufficient or missing record to knowthe status of National Housing Corporation, let alonethe number of properties sold or are yet to be sold and Titles transferred underthe different Housing Schemes.

 

PAC Committee Member and Nothern Governor Gary Juffa usedthe opportunity to raise concerns aboutthe Housing Manager in Popondetta. He claimsthe Manager is not available performing his duty.

 

 

The National Housing Corporation is currently undergoing its Valuation Exercise in General on all assets and properties to validate all NHC properties. It is also working closely withtheLands Department to align all processes.
