Fifty five Lae based cement factory workers who sought to be reinstated throughthe Wewak Labour office may not gettheir jobs back according tothe Momase Regional Labour office in Lae.
Labour’s Momase Regional Manager, David Ninawali, saidthe workers’ complaints are not of an industrial nature.
It all began onthe 11th of Novermber, 2011, when a hundred and forty workers walked offtheir jobs atthPNG Taiheiyo Cement factory in protest over working conditions.
The Japanese owned company responded by sacking fifty five ofthe workers who chose not to return totheir jobs.
The workers saidthey sought help fromthe Lae Labour Office but responses were too slow sothey requested for a compulsory conference bythe Wewak Labour Office.
Speaking to EMTV last month,the group’s spokesperson said workers had become frustrated overthe long wait.
Members ofthe Unionsaid informally that a reinstatement order has been prepared bythe Wewak Office and will be delivered tPNG Taiheiyo.
David Ninawali said thatthe group was fighting for better entitlements butthe problem was thattheir complaints weren’t of an industrial nature.
Ninawali said he was aware of a compulsory conference meeting atthe Wewak Labour Office butthe outcome of that is still unknown.
He also said that any reinstatement document coming out fromthe Wewak Labour Office is invalid because officers are not sanctioned bythe labour secretariat to give out such orders.
