Teachers Question 15 Percent Deducted From Leave Fare

A teacher waiting for her leave fares atthe Morobe Provincial Education office says she isn’t happy with a 15 percent deduction fromtheir leave fares.

She saysthe Morobe Provincial Education office paidtheir leave fares to a travel agent and 15 percent was deducted for service costs.

The teachers saidthey wanttheir fares paid directly intotheir accounts.

Newas Tosel (Pictured) who is teaching in Belolo and is from Miline Bey Province has taught for over thirty years, 21 years of which was spent in Morobe.

She is now waiting for a letter that allows her to access travel fares via Prime Travel that receives direct payment fromthe Provincial Education.

“It has been happening inthe education office, this isn’t good enough, I thinkthey should do something better for the teachers,” she said.

Bet that arrangement means 15 percent ofthe teachers’ hard earned money goes to service costs. The fares are paid directly to Prime Travel when it can be conveniently paid intothe teachers’ accounts.

Tusil and two ther family members have now become victims of an arrangement that isn’t working.

Another teacher Luke Alwyn who is also from Miline Bey Province says travel arrangements should be done with a bit more urgency.

“I am a teacher from outsidethe province so I must be given first priority,” he said.

The arrangements for teachers travel fares in ther Provinces, likethe Western Highlands seethe money being paid intotheir accounts.
