Hanuabada Clash Update

Arrests are expected to be made following intense clashes just outside Hanuabada on Monday which left 11 people injured.

 

The most serious, and that which ignitedthe clash, was a man who was hacked onthe back of his head with a bush knife.

According to police reports, two girls fromthe village were sent to a nearby market at around 10 pm on Sunday whenthey were confronted by a drunk male from Chimbu.

 

The drunk male demandedtheir mobile phones and a struggle began which caughtthe attention of one ofthe girls’ fther who rushed totheir aid.

 

A fist fightthen ensued in whichthe Hanuabada man was hacked allegedly by anther drunk male from Tari inthe Hela Province.

 

This sparked a clash which lasted over 12 hours. Police intervenedthe next morning and broughtthe situation under control.

 

Police saythe situation is no longer tense andthey are working with community lLeadersin apprehendingthe suspects involved in startingthe clash.
