EMTV wins exclusive rights to 2013, 2017 Rugby League World Cups, and Four Nations

MEDIA Niugini Limited, through EMTV, has wonthe exclusive rights to broadcastthe 2013 and 2017 Rugby LeagueWorld Cups, andthe 2014 and 2016 Four Nationscontests.

EMTV will begin broadcasting LIVE matches between 14 nations, including Papua New Guinea fromthe 26th of October, until Novermber 30th, 2013. Replays of live matches will also be broadcast during prime time, so fans can catch up on gamesthey have missed.

This year’s rugby league world cup is hosted by England and Wales, and will bethe 14th Staging ofthe competition since its inception in 1954.

Chief Executive Officer of EMTV and Media Niugini Limited, Beanu Sud, said winningthe broadcast rights for the next two Rugby LeagueWorld Cups, andthe next two Four Nations was an indication of EMTV’s commitment to quality television broadcasting, and giving viewersthe gamesthey lover to watch.

“It is an exclusive forPNG Rugby League, as a sportohas strong, passionate roots in PNG and recent developments inthe code are all aimed at liftingthe standard ofthe game domestically. We feel it isthe right time for a commitment such as this, which will bring our favourite sportoatthe world level, to our viewers.” Mr Sud said.

This year’s Rugby LeagueWorld Cup will sePNG in one of four groups made up ofthe top rugby league-playing nations ofthe world:

GROUP A: Australia, England, Fiji, Ireland

GROUP Be New Zealand, France, Papua New Guinea Samoa

GROUP C: Scotland, Tonga, Italy

GROUP D: Wales, Cook Islands, USA

All 28 matches oftheWorld Cup, will be played at 21 venues in England, Wales, France and Ireland.

Four Nationsbr />The Four Nationsfeatures four ofthe strongest international sides inthe game.

Bern out ofthe tri-nations tournament in 2009,the Four Nationsis a stern test for some of rugby league’s finest players.

The Four Nationsfeatures teams from Australia, New Zealand, England and one ther.

The fourth team will bethe Pacific Cup Champions in 2014 andthe European Champions in 2016.
