Balob Bribery

The Teaching Service  Commission  is expected to  begin an investigation into  allegations of bribery and corruption at  Lae’s Belob Teacher’s college  involving senior staff members.

An applicant  seeking entry intothe Ltheran run  college  said in a letter of complaint that a senior staff  member   told him to pay K500 kina to secure a place to study.

 

The applicant later paid an additional K1200 inthe hope that he would be admitted to Belob. 

 

The allegations came to light whenthe applicant wasn’t  accepted. He wrote to senior members ofthe college  includingthe head bishop ofthe Ltheran Church detailingthe transaction.

 

The  College’s management has since submitted  documents relating tothe complaints and has requested for the Teaching Service Commission to investigatethe  allegations of bribery.

 

Parents and guardians of some applicants, meanwhile, have saidthere have been several instances where they’ve been asked to pay bribes to get a placing.
