Tuition Fee Free Education in Highlands Region

The commodity component of the Tuition Fee Free Education in the Highlands Region was launched in Mendi, Southern Highlands Province last Friday.

To be rolled out next year by the contractor appointed, Treid Pacific, the event on Friday saw them issuing demonstration student and teacher kits to schools in Southern Highlands Province.

Education Minister Nick Kuman hailed the success of Tuition Fee Free Education in the country since its inception in 2012.

Kumin Primary School in Mendi town hosted Friday’s event to launch the commodity component of the tuition fee free education in the highlands region.

Representing the National Government and the education department were Deputy Secretary Dr Eliakim Apelis and the minister Nick Kuman.

Dr Apelis said the commodity component of TFFE did not take away the responsibility of parents…rather it gives them alternatives of how they can support their children to excel in their studies.

Treid Pacific, who has won the contract to supply implement the commodity component of TFFE had demonstration kits for staff and students in the province. The official roll out will be next year.

Governor of Southern Highlands William Powi said he was dealing with the education sector in a realistic way by complementing the governments TFFE policy by supplying uniforms and said school materials were an important part of the education process.

Education Minister Nick Kuman said TFFE has been successfully implemented by the government over the last two years proving critics wrong and it will continue in the years ahead.

The school kits come in different grades to address the needs of those grades and the success of this will be monitored using the teacher reissue card.
