More emphasis has been placed on violence against women, creating a negative outlook of men in the country.
This perception of men caused Digicel Foundation to launch its' new campaign to help fight against violence and also recognize men in the country.
The Men of Honor Campaign, by Digicel Foundation, was launched today by Digicel Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Beatrice Mahuru.
The campaign is to help address violence in Papua New Guinea and also award and acknowledge the men in our communities that have contributed to alleviating suffering and preserving human dignity in the roles they play.
The campaign has six categories which include the community ingenuity award, sporting mentor award, community entrepreneur award, community education champion, community leadership award and the 2014 Man of Honor Award or the Trupla Man of the Year award.
Beatrice Mahuru said very little has been done to acknowledge good men or help the struggling ones. Through the campaign, communities are encouraged to identify role models and positive behavior.
The campaign starts today and will continue through to March next year for the presentation of the awards.
This campaign is not about the award; it is about the character of men in the country and is also an important step in addressing violence in the country.
