Locals Want Authorities to Fix Highlands Highway

PMV owners and women leaders in Nipa Kutubu are calling on the National Government to step-in and improve the road conditions of parts of the Highlands Highway.

Nipa Kutubu Women President Leonie John said the road from Kiburu in Mendi town to Ambua in Tari needs urgent attention from authorities.

She said the bad road conditions have also caused accidents for big trucks and inconvenience for the travelling public.

Locals say the National Highway is their life and the government’s ignorance sees the people of Hela and Southern Highlands suffer very much.

The same Highway is used by Kutubu Oil, Moran Oil, Southwest Malanda, Mt Kare and Hides gas.

The road problems in Southern Highlands especially feeder roads and Provincial Government roads are also needs fixing after a long disaster. People now want the Provincial and National Government to seriously look into the roads.

Youth leader John Som and Nipa Station Councilor Mrs Glandra Waspen also said Government and even Exxon Mobil who is using Highlands Highway need to come and do something.
