Dei District Purchases Excavators

Dei district in Western Highlands has purchased 2 excavators at the cost of K1 million.

The payment in the form of a cheque was presented to UMV in Port Moresby yesterday by member for Dei Wesley Nukunts.

Present for the occasion was District Administrator Steven Korowa and others from the district.

A decision was reached by the district’s planning and budget priorities committee after realising the expensive cost involved in awarding road contracts.

These machines will then be handed over to the Works Department to take custody over the machines, coordinate and supervise road works in the district.

The committee has also deceived to purchase several dump trucks, a backhoe and an operational vehicle to assist road contracts.

Two million kina will be paid to Works department to provide coordination and supervision

The member received some praise from his district administration for prioritizing impact projects for the district.

This is the first time for the district to own such machines that will assist the district deliver road and bridges in the province.

The member expressed concern that a road project in the district cost K5 million kina which could have been much cheaper if it was done using its own machines.
