Welfare Officer Avoids Police Directives

A senior Welfare Officer has failed to turn up at the Boroko Police Station for questioning despite two police directives.

Lita Mukagia, the officer responsible for the custody case involving the Australian pilot Captain Fred Martens and his sons was not at the police station this morning.

When Sargent Nicolas Niap called Mukagia this morning, she’said her solicitor had advised her not to go the police station for questioning.

The case has dragged on for nine days. Yesterday a directive was issued by Sargent Niap to Mukagia to turn herself in for questioning.

But she responded through a phone call and said, she was busy doing other things.

In the same conversation, she promised Niap while EMTV was present that she would come to the police station this morning. Unfortunately she did not turn up today.

Mukagia is the same officer who took the boys Fred Martens and Maxwell Proctor from Captain Martens right outside EMTV office on June 24.

Captain Martens said, at time the boys were removed by Mukagia, no proper documentations where served to him to explain the nature of the complaint or show cause why the boys were removed.

Numerous attempts to get comMen’s from the Child Welfare Office here in Boroko are still unsuccessful.

EMTV understands the boys are kept in a different house by a different welfare officer.
