John Dege, the former managing director of the National Housing Corporation, has been charged with two counts of Abuse of Office, and Conspiracy.

The charges follow allegations that in October 2016 while acting as NHC Managing Director, Dege facilitated a transfer of NHC property at Henao Drive in Port Moresby, to a Judith Nikijuluw, who is believed to be an employee of a company called Cakara Alam Limited.

The tenant of the property in question laid a complaint to police after HNC made an offer to him to buy the property, and he had paid the 10% upfront.

However, the Contract of Sale was not finalized yet, when the property was sold to Nikijuluw.

Upon learning of the property being sold to another person, the complainant informed the police, which led to the arrest.

Mr. Dege is understood to have been refused bail and remains in police custody.
