Fiji To Preserve Culture Through Curriculum

Fiji is preserving its’ cultural practices by integrating it into a curriculum.

This was relayed by Fiji’s Youth and Sports Minister, Viliame Naupoto, at the 5th Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture in Port Moresby today.

He said Fiji was proud to cultivate the Melanesian way of life and that the answer to preserving our cultural heritage is through the youth.

Fiji has been a force in the Melanesian Spearhead Group and the 5th Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture.

The youthfulness in the group from Fiji was noticeable. As Fiji’s Youth and Sports Minister explains, they are part of a special school that concentrates on nurturing traditional cultural practices.

He said his contingent was happy to be a part of the Melanesian festivities thus far.

Unfortunately for the group, they experienced a death on Sunday. He remembers the lady that passed away as a key member of the group.

The body will be flown out on Saturday.
