Virgin Coconut Oil Aids Copra Growers

The local manufacturing of virgin coconut oil in Rabaul is a relief for local copra growers.

This means a cut in labor costs, along with more money generated from the sale of their coconuts.

But the success of this virgin oil depends heavily on the coconuts supplied by local growers.

This means that the amount and type of coconuts provided by locals will determine the volume of oil produced on a daily basis.

East New Britain is a leading supplier of copra in PNG and according to Rabaul District Administrator Marakan Uvano, the province has a huge potential in producing coconut by products that may even be exported to other countries.

But for this to become a reality, proper management skills are needed to manage the newly-birthed factory; proper awareness must be carried out to educate locals on this new commodity.

This is another example of the small-medium enterprise and public-private partnership between the Rabaul District Administration and the Rabaul community.
