China Invests In Human Resources

The China Harbour Engineering Company will sponsor 4 Papua New Guinean students to study engineering courses in China.

The reason to invest in human resources shows the company’s commitment to the people of PNG. It is a direct push by China Harbour to push students into marine and environmental engineering fields.

Present at the scholarship signing ceremony in Port Moresby yesterday were selected students and their parents, an OHE representative and members from CHEC.

China Harbour’s General Manager, Ma Jianhua, said this was only the beginning and his company will be looking at increasing the number of students in the coming years.

“This year, we chose five and next year maybe ten,” said Jianhua.

The five year scholarship program will see the students master the Chinese language in their first year before streaming into their major fields.

The students were urged to bring back the knowledge they will acquire while in China and contribute to the economic development of PNG.

CHEC is the builder of the Lae tidal basin project and a few major road constructions in the nation’s capital.
