Lae Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in the car park of a club in the city, on Saturday.
Peter Barnanga, a PNG Rugby League great, was found dead in his vehicle at around 1am in the morning at Waratahs Sports Club. Investigators say there was no physical evidence of trauma found on the dead man's body.
They are now waiting for the post-mortem of Peter Baranga to establish the cause of death.
“NEW TEACHERS HOUSING” – Sylvester Gawi
Three villages in the rural Kainantu district received new houses for teachers, built by the community through the Sophia Totona Foundation.
Education Minister Nick Kuman officiated at the opening of these new houses and was impressed with the collective efforts put together in embracing the challenges brought on by the government’s free education policy.
“VIPERS LOSE GAME” – Sylvester Gawi
Digicel cup defending champions SNS Port Moresby Vipers were narrowly defeated by the Enga Mioks 12 points to 10 in Lae yesterday.
The Vipers, in recent weeks, recouped their winning spree by defeating the Agmark Gurias at Kalabond Oval in a nail-biting finish against competition leaders, Lae SNAX Tigers.
The loss was an eye-opener for players and management, who have to work on areas of improvement in the coming weeks.
“PNG-USA ALUMNI” – Bernadette Efi
The PNG-USA Alumni Association and the US Embassy held a small meet and greet event to welcome back Mary Fairio who was the 2012 recipient of the J. William Fulbright Scholarship.
Ms Fairio completed her Masters in Political Science at Ohio University – Graduate School.
Mary is now working with her previous employer, Constitutional and Law Reform Commission. Fellow alumni include Michelle, who will commence her Masters in Animal and Poultry Sciences at Virginia Polytechnic Institute this month.
The embassy has encouraged PNG citizens, particularly women, to lodge their applications to further their knowledge and skills through such US-sponsored programs.
“FINAU MARA DEPARTS MORESBY” – Fabian Hakalits
The body of the late Fijian weaver, Finau Mara, was flown home yesterday accompanied by the Fiji contingent.
The late Mara died after she collapsed at Vision City mall during the 5th Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture. Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister, Boka Kondra, represented the PNG National Government and brought the casket to her home country.

Nawaeb District schools have suffered from failing infrastructure that has contributed to poor academic performance of students.
The district administration allocated funds from its DSIP budget to purchases exercise books and stationary. It’s a move aimed to improve remote schools in places such as Boana and Nabak.
“LACK OF TERTIARY SPACING” – Theckla Gunga
The lack of tertiary spacing for grade 12 school-leavers is a constant issue most speakers raise during graduation ceremonies.
This issue was again highlighted during the 8th Kumul Training Institution (KTI) graduation today. KTI director Max Muri described the lack of tertiary space as PNG having a bottleneck in education spacing.
With the establishment of such education centres, students are given another chance in pursuing their careers. Established in 2005, KTI has graduated close to 10, 000 students in the fields of business, accounting and computing. Over a hundred students graduated today under the three disciplines. Some travelled in from Lae to receive the training.
Mr Motolova also said the PNG government has increased the demand for qualified professionals and he encouraged the students to have the right attitude for the jobs.
