Taekwondo president dies

The man at the helm of Taekwondo PNG’s push for Pacific Games glory in 2015, Ower Illa, passed away last Friday after a sort illness.

Illa assumed the role of President of Taekwondo PNG on May 7, 2011 after a Special General Meeting was held to select a new executive for Taekwondo.

In his brief time as President, Illa was determined to see Taekwondo PNG dominate the region with gold medal winning performances at the 2015 Pacific Games.

His efforts also saw London Olympian Theresa Tona undergo high level preparation overseas before competing in this year’s Olympics.
