Commissioner Tom Kulunga received the plans for the new Bomana Centre of Excellence today from lead engineer Joseph Hamylton of Stocks & Partners Ltd.
The Centre of Excellence forms the cornerstone of Commissioner Kulunga’s strategy for police reform.
‘The RPNGC has a strong tradition of serving the people of PNG’, said Commissioner Kulunga. ‘But it’s no secret we have faced many challenges in recent years as we seek to promote discipline in the force and crackdown on corruption.
‘Our number one priority is to work towards rebuilding the nation’s confidence in our organisation. However, this cannot be done overnight’, he said.
Already, the RPNGC has taken in seven-hundred and twenty (720) new recruits, many of whom will soon deploy to the Highlands to protect the electoral process.
A further two-hundred and forty (240) will graduate from the Centre of Excellence in 2013.
The Centre of Excellence will replace the old Bomana Police Training College and will strengthen the RPNGC’s capacity to train a new generation of police for PNG to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
