Prime Minister Peter O’Neill today presented a cheque of K6.6 million to Health Minister Jamie Maxton Graham and Health Secretary Pasoe Kase.
The money generated from National Gaming Control Board through the Community Benefit Fund will assist Hospitals and Rural Health Centres across the country to purchase essential equipment.
Priority equipment are industrial washing machines, outreach vehicles, sterilisers and a much need Oxygen plan for Port Moresby General Hospital. A Therapy Machine was also donated by the Cancer Unit in Lae.
The K6.6 million funding follows on from the Prime Minister’s pledge to implement a new national training program for key medical personnel with immediate effect.
At the launch of his Peoples National Congress political platform last month, Mr O’Neill said the main thrust of the training program was intended to boost the numbers of trained doctors, nurses and mid-wives.
The training program forms part of a K2.95 billion fund the government has committed for the next 10 years to the country’s National Health Care Plan.
