PM: Strongest team ever in PNG elections

With just over three weeks to go before the Papua New Guinea election takes place, the Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill has announced he is confident the combined strength and experience of his People’s National Congress (PNC) will sweep him to success on 23rd June.

Mr. O’Neill, who will be standing for re-election in his seat of Ialibu-Pangia in the Southern Highlands, is leading 89 nominated members of the party in this year’s elections.

“My party members, who represent the most experienced, respected and individually strong team of people I have ever lead into an election, are extremely confident of success in the forthcoming election,” Mr. O’Neill said.

“I know that the people of Papua New Guinea, having seen my performance over the last nine months, are confident that I can more than deliver the goods to the ultimate benefit of everyone in the country over the next five years in my capacity as Prime Minister.”

The PNC has been quick off the mark, firing its first election salvos on 23 May when an estimated 4.5 million Papua New Guineans tuned in to see the Prime Minister deliver his ‘Growing our future’ address shortly before game one of the 2012 State of Origin series.

This initial message was followed at half time by a further presentation in which the Prime Minister outlined the PNC’s policy on health reform.

The Prime Minister’s address marked the roll out of a month-long series of People’s National Congress TV campaign advertisements which will focus on and address the five key pillars contained within the PNC’s 2012 political manifesto.

These are specifically economic growth, healthcare, free education, infrastructure and law and order.

The Prime Minister has been joined in the advertisements by several Papua New Guineans who speak in tandem with Mr. O’Neill in addressing these five key issues.

The ‘Growing our future’ campaign advertisements are also being featured in coming weeks in all major newspapers and on local radio stations – both in English and Pidgin.
