Time management, interviewing techniques and analysing skills contribute greatly to the work of a police officer.
However, Deputy Police Commissioner for Operations, Jim Andrews, says over the years police officers fail to carry out these basic duties at a station level.
Yesterday, nineteen officers completed three weeks of the Frontline Supervision Course, an initiative to help improve core police functions for individual officers.
Two women are amongst the nineteen police personnel. They are Senior Constables Susan Eric and Miriam Bob, both working in the NCD Command.
The Frontline Supervision is a refresher course that focuses on the management skills of a supervisor, especially those that have other officers working under them.
From the nineteen participants, five come from Gulf Province and Senior Sergeant Thomas Akasiki is one of them.
Akasiki has over 30 years of experience as a police officer and said the last time he attended training similar to this refresher course was over 15 years ago.
Because of the increase in public criticism against the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary, training such as this course are aimed at upskilling individual officers so as to further improve the image of the RPNGC.
This is the second batch of participants, with a similar course expected to be conducted in Kerema and Port Moresby.
