NAQIA Whistle Blower Bashed

By Mickey Kavera – EM TV News, Port Moresby

An employee of the National Agriculture and Quarantine Inspection Authority (NAQIA) was bashed by security guards at the NAQIA headquarters in Port Moresby yesterday.

Thomas Duni from Kagua in the Southern Highlands Province has been employed by NAQIA as a corporate driver since 2012.

According to Duni, he was verbally told by the NAQIA management not to enter the NAQIA office from Monday of last week.

This decision comes after Duni blew the whistle on corruption within NAQIA involving the Managing Director, Joel Alu.

This has resulted in Alu being arrested and charged by the fraud squad for official corruption and released on K10,000 bail. He is now awaiting his court case.

Duni said he has no personal vendetta against Alu, but he is simply fighting corruption within NAQIA.

“I don’t have any grudges against the Managing Director, Joel Alu. All I want is for him to do the right thing and not use his power to threaten and intimidate me for speaking up for the truth,” he said.
