PNG-Greece Relations

Papua New Guinea believes that relations with Greece, a member of the European Union, can be further strengthened.

Governor General, Sir Michael Ogio, made the remarks at the presentation of Credentials from the Ambassador-designate of the Hellenic Republic of Greece to Papua New Guinea.

The Government House in Port Moresby was today visited by the Ambassador-Designate of the Hellenic Republic of Greece to Papua New Guinea.

His Excellency, Mr. Haris Dafaranos, inspected the assembled Guard of Honor, before the national anthems of both countries was played.

Indoors, Mr Dafaranos presented his Letter of Credence, by which the President of the Hellenic Republic of Greece appointed him as Ambassador to PNG.

The new Ambassador also acknowledged Kostas Constantinou, who has been the Greek Honorary Consul in PNG for a number of years.

Mr Dafaranos said that Greece, as a seafaring nation, was interested in global trade of marine resources and transport.

The Governor General acknowledged that Greece as a member of the European Union provides valuable development support to the African, Caribbean and Pacific or ACP countries.

Sir Michael Ogio said PNG believes that relations with Greece can be further strengthened in the fields of trade, investment and tourism.
