David Eri Makes a Come Back into the Pukpuks

by Lorraine Genia – EM TV Sport, Port Moresby

Veteran Pukpuk, David Eri has made clear his intentions – he will be making a comeback to sevens.

Eri, who has played in the same league as Douglas Guise, Paul Joseph, and Lawrence Acanufa will return fitter than ever, leading the young team into the 2015 Pacific Games.

After years of absence from rugby union in the country, Eri’s comeback would give the team a good lead into the Pacific Games, given his experience from previous Games in Fiji and New Caledonia.

“I’m just here to help out the young guys coming through to add a little of experience and give them a bit of a guiding hand.”

Eri, who would automatically take a leadership role, has been training with the Pukpuks since their return from Hong Kong.
He said, “I’d just like to influence the team members, the new ones that are coming through in particular. Obviously these guys have home ground advantage, so we want to help them as much as possible, lift up their confidence and hopefully do one better from the last Games.”

The team will continue training over the next few weeks, before heading into camp next month.

Assistant coach, Douglas Guise says, the coaching staff will have finalised the team by mid-May, to take on the Pacific Island nations.
