Opposition leader, Don Polye, says there is more work needed to empower and strengthen the roles of the Ombudsman Commission.
Polye says the watchdog’s role is still entrapped with current legislations, including enforcement agencies of law.
The Opposition leader made this call as the Ombudsman Commission establishes its offices around the country.
Opposition leader, Don Polye, says the Ombudsman Commission must not be seen as an agent that punishes leaders, rather it must be upheld as an agent for good governance and transparency.
Polye described current legislation too weak to empower OC’s roles and responsibilities. He wants to see more support to strengthen the watchdog’s role.
Mr Polye said no leader is perfect but as the government plans to increase funds to districts, local level governments and key agencies for development purposes, all agencies of the law and justice sector must be scaled to do better and punish those found guilty.
The Opposition leader said the establishment of Ombudsman Commission’s office around the country is a good start to oversee levels of government.
