The Fault in Our Stars Wins Big at 2015 MTV Movie Awards

By Kiwiana Ngabung – EMTV Online, Port Moresby

The MTV Movie Awards this year saw the world’s favourite movie stars come together at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

Hosting the show for the first time was stand-up comedian, actress and writer, Amy Schumer who got the crowd laughing from the very start.

The group who stole the show was the crew of The Fault in Our Stars.

Taking home the Best Female Performance award was Shailene Woodley, along with co-star Ansel Elgort. Woodley snatched the award for Best Kiss in their roles in Fault in Our Stars.

Despite Elgort not taking the Best Male Performance golden popcorn that night, the event came to a great end in announcing the Movie of the Year which was given to, none other than, The Fault in Our Stars.

Although some notable figures of the crew weren’t present, like lead actor, Ansel Elgort, those who accepted the award were all excited, overwhelmed and ecstatic.

The novel’s author, John Green, gave the acceptance speech; starting off by saying “I had nothing to do with the making of this movie, but I was the first to the microphone.”

He also made mention of the teen who inspired the writing of the novel, Esther Earl.

Thanking her he said, “Esther taught me that a short life can also be a good life. And she taught me that people who are living with disability are not defined by those disabilities. And that the lives of people who are living with illness or disability are just as interesting and complicated and beautiful […] as any other lives.”

Other winners of the night were Bradley Cooper – Best Male Performance in American Sniper, Zac Efron & Dave Franco – Best Duo in Neighbors, and Kevin Hart as MTV’s Comedic Genius.
