Carols By Candlelight To Unite Kiunga Town

By Stanley Ove Jr – EM TV News, Port Moresby

The small town of Kiunga hosted its first Christmas Carols by Candle Light last Friday.

Organised by the Kiunga Police, the carols by candle light was aimed to bring the community together in the true meaning of Christmas.

Church groups including a number of business houses came together to perform Christmas Carols and share their Christmas messages.

Western Provincial Police Commander, Sylvester Sika, who initiated the event said he wants to unite the community and encourage youths to do away with consuming alcohol which is a common trend during the festive season.

Sika said while Port Moresby and other centres around the country are hosting their carols by candlelight, he saw the need to introduce this tradition to Kiunga in hope it will be an annual event.

Meanwhile, Catholic Bishop for Kiunga, Giles Cote, when giving his Christmas message said the challenge is for all Papua New Guineans to remember the true meaning of Christmas. This he said will unite the community.
