Plan on Law and Justice Service Launched

By Theckla Gunga – EMTV Port Moresby

A plan to expand law and justice services in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville was recently launched in Buka by the Bougainville Government.

The Mid Term Development Plan will be executed over the next four years. It describes the growth and development in the law and justice services, delivering in selected areas a professional environment.

When launching the plan, Bougainville Minister for Police, Correctional Service and Justice, Willie Masiu, said the plan puts back the responsibility of improving the law and justice services in the hands of the Bougainville government.

“This is our commitment for our people, by which they hold us accountable,” Minister Masiu said.

Secretary for the Police, Correctional Service and Justice, Kearnneth Nanei, said the plan will provide people in Bougainville with the best possible law and justice services.

“The plan fulfills this objective, as well as the Bougainville Peace Agreement, to rebuild law and justice institutions in Bougainville and to guide the delivery of law and justice services to 2019,” Secretary Nanei said.

The plan is a collaborative effort by the Bougainville and Australian governments under the PNG-Australia Law and Justice Partnership -Transition Program.
